Isn’t this just coaching? Why the focus on books?
Sometimes it can be daunting to make changes in your life. If there is uncertainty or fear (and there usually is), then it’s easier to begin by talking about something you love and something that inspires you. Books provide the sparks that can ignite change.
But isn’t coaching all about “the answers are within you”? Isn’t using a book as your source just living someone else’s life?
The answers are within you – but sometimes it takes an outside source (like a book, a conversation, a birth, a death) to shine a light on those answers, or, indeed, the question.
Is bibliocoaching something to do with the Bible?
According to the Oxford Dictionary,
biblio- is a combining form “relating to a book or books”. It’s from the Greek
biblion ‘book’. eg bibliophile, bibliography. According to the International Coach Federation, coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”. So, while the Bible is a book, bibliocoaching as practised at BiblioCoach is not connected with the Bible.
Aren’t book clubs where you talk about books and stuff?
Sure, regular book clubs are great places to come together with others and discuss big and small issues that books bring to the fore, but they are about shared conversations rather than personal exploration (Let’s find common ground rather than Let’s talk about me!). Bibliocoach provides you with the opportunity to explore the personal meaning and how you can apply the ideas and inspirations of the books you are reading. Eg Book Club – Would you leave your child for a better life in another country? Bibliocoach – What do you regard as a “good life”? What does it mean to be a mother? What’s most important to you? With our unique action-focused book club, Rise and Shine Book Club, you also get to connect with others who share a love of books and are asking similar questions of life.
How do I get started?
If you’ve read all about bibliocoaching and it sounds like it’s right for you then
book a bibliocoaching session.
How much does it cost?
Bibliocoaching starts at AUD $150.00 for your first 60-minute session plus a follow-up 15-minute check-in and book recommendations session. Multiple-session blocks are available for 3-, 6- and 12-session programs. If you are experiencing financial difficulty and feel Bibliocoaching is just what you need to get moving in life, then
contact me to discuss pro-rata rates.
Do I need to do a number of sessions?
You choose how many sessions and how often we meet. You can opt for occasional one-off sessions to help you explore your current reading’s ideas or a 3-, 6- or 12-month schedule of regular sessions to fully integrate your weekly reading into your life. Follow-up sessions aren’t essential but they do make the most of the iterative learning process of coaching. In my experience, six sessions seems to get substantial change happening and maintained.
I don’t read many books. Do I have to know about books?
The only thing you need to know is that when you read books they spark all sorts of ideas – ideas you would like to bring into your life. So if you don’t have a book in mind, you can bring your ideas and we’ll get a list of recommendations for reading for working together.
Can you recommend any books on [creating a better relationship, starting a business, enjoying my work, being kind, finding peace, making better decisions, not being so darn cranky all the time, …]?
Sure,
book a session and we can talk about what books might be right for your life at the moment.
